Having sufficient space within the cage is important for your cavy as it is a place for him to roam around, rest, eat and play. As a guide, a cage that is 30 by 36 inches would be the right size for one average-sized guinea pig. With every increase in the number of guinea pigs you have, the length of the cage should be larger by approximately 14 inches, i.e. four guinea pigs would require a cage that is about 30 by 78 inches.

Another important aspect of the cage is the material it is made of. It is advised for cages to be made of plastic or metal that come with a solid floor.
