Cat harnesses come in three different design styles – figure 8, H-harness and V-harness. These styles affect the ease of getting the harness onto and off your cat, which plays a part in allowing your cat to familarise with it. Before you get a harness for your pet, be sure to take measurements of the circumference of your cat’s chest, just behind his front legs.
A harness should fit your cat nicely; you should be able to fit only 2 fingers under the harness when your cat is wearing it. A good harness should come with adjustable straps and a comfortable material (usually nylon or neoprene). After you have purchased one, allow your feline friend to try it on and walk around the house to get used to it. Start with a short period of time on the first day and slowly increase the duration each day and give him cat treats while he walks around the house with the harness on.
