Frozen dog food is either raw or gently cooked, which is a natural way of retaining the essential nutrients. The complication comes during storage and serving. Before you purchase frozen food, ensure that you have a way to keep the product frozen all the way home. Alternatively, you can opt for professional delivery, which is something that PLC provides (Tuesdays – Fridays, 9am – 12pm).
Before serving, always plan ahead and thaw the right proportion of food in the fridge overnight for next-day meals. It is not ideal to refreeze anything that has been thawed. Also, you must not use a microwave to thaw it as that will reduce its digestibility. You can, however, use either the fridge or cold water to thaw. It is also wise to keep a stash of air-dried or freeze-dried dog food in a similar flavour in case there is no thawed food reads.
When it comes to frozen food, it is crucial to ensure safe food handling at all times. Be sure to clean and sterilise any storage containers and equipment used when handling frozen food.
